As anyone who reads this blog (insert sound of crickets here) may have seen I have not posted as much lately. When I started this blog I did so with the very conscious idea of not letting it spiral into something that was nothing other than meaningless angst or darkness as I felt perhaps happened on my Live Journal account. As a result I simply have not posted as of late because I really have not had all that much of value to say or add here. I've been dealing with some difficult emotions, and all I can say I am still struggling with them.
Fortunately I have tried to right myself somehow instead of just wallowing. At times if I keep myself busy enough and do stuff I can get my mind off certain things. One of those things was going out a week ago to see the movie 'Iron Man'. I went with my friend Randy and we both enjoyed it. Neither of us are big Iron Man aficionados so we could not be overly critical of any discrepancies between the movie and comic book but I did find it highly appropriate that the opening scene shows Tony Stark with a tumbler of Scotch in hand. For those that don't know Tony Stark/Iron Man has a problem with alcohol, in the comics at least. I think they hint at it here as well as they hinting at Jim Rhodes' future as Iron Man (and later War Machine) when Stark is unable to don the suit due to his alcoholism for a setup for the next movie or two.
The movie itself is a nice balance of action, humour, and pretty good acting. I think Robert Downey Jr did a good job as Tony Stark/Iron Man and the supporting cast was excellent. Gwyneth Paltrow had nice chemistry with Downey as his personal assistant Pepper Potts. Jeff Bridges was excellent too and Terrance Howard did a nice job as Rhodes, though I rather expected a deeper voice of that character though I am sure there will be plenty more of him in the 2nd movie... Oh and Gwyneth... she had her hair done up red... god that was hot... 'course I have this thing for redheads. I always thought she was a pretty good actress and attractive... but then her with redhair... *sigh*. The action sequences were nice... not overboard and clearly defined unlike Transformers where it was hard to see the details of what was going on at times.
If you get a chance I would recommend seeing it. And stay past the credits... there's a little treat at the end of the credits... particularly if you are a Marvel fan.
