A Refreshed Perspective

So this weekend and how enjoyable it was got me thinking. I feel I got to be too much a creature of habit in the recent past. I used to go out more and be involved in activities of various sorts and this weekend reminded me of how fun it is to get out and be more involved. I need to start doing that again and regain a zest for life...

Certain routines are generally unavoidable and necessary. For example a typical weekday for me consists of waking up, eating breakfast, lifting weights, showering and then some sort of miscellaneous activity, usually watching a show I recorded or lounging about a bit before going to work. Then I work my 8 hour shift go home and sleep. Rinse, repeat 5 times Monday through Friday. It's not a bad routine. Lifting weights is a good project and well work pays the bills. TV is not something I am overly attached to, except for maybe the show House.

The weekend though is something that is ripe for opportunity, one just has to go out and grab the opportunities, or make things happen and after enjoying myself so much this weekend I have decided that I need more occassions like this, and will attempt to get some friends in on this action. I love my friends and like spending time with them, but sometimes I feel we do too much of the same thing. I want to spread out the activities and enjoy some variety. As a friend was wont to say, variety is the spice of life. While a routine is comforting and for some going out of their comfort zone can be difficult I feel it's important to give things a shot and go out and enjoy what the world has to offer.

Things are already looking up in terms of activities this year. I have planned a Toronto/ Mississauga trip in a few weekends. I have taken March 20th and 21rst off (the 21rst being my birthday) and I am thinking of something to do then. Early August is a trip to Cooperstown to check out a Belgian Festival run by Ommegang Brewery (a brewer of fine Belgian style beers). I have 3 weeks of vacation available, so finances willing (I am going back to school this fall and will be paying for courses out of my own pocket), I will be doing some travelling. Cheers to new adventures!
